I'd Like to Thank the Academy
About 10 months ago I attended the Martha Beck Writer's Dream Retreat. The 24 participants and faculty didn't talk a whole heck of a lot about writing. I think we were brought together for a higher, deeper cause. For many of us this retreat was the tipping point for stepping off the precipice and into the abyss of being a modern day shaman.
At the retreat, a lot of people were interested in my social media and marketing knowledge. In my corporate life every time I had an idea about social media or marketing, I stepped into a political war zone. At the retreat service, I brought my ideas from a foundation of service. I had no other agenda and it felt great.
I left the workshop and almost immediately changed my mindset from winning my point to sharing my knowledge as a servant. This shift has been rewarding in so many ways that go far beyond business. Now my approach is simple. If I can help, I do. That's it—no games, no politics, no secret goals—just pure service. Pure love.
Anyway, today the Coaching Academy of North America recognized my service and awarded me the Empowerment Coach of the Year Award for 2011.
It just feels amazing to know that what I have given has helped people. And knowing the help I provide is magnified because more people get the opportunity to experience life coaching and learn to love and accept themselves exactly as they are. Wow!
I am just gob-smacked with gratitude for the way my mind and heart was changed last October simply because I showed up with a servant's heart and the other participants met me where I was. Through their eyes I have learned to see myself in a whole new light. I dedicate this award to them.
